Heartburn
What exactly is heartburn? Your body is intended to take over all the specifics once you’ve swallowed that burrito, leaving you with nothing except the memory of that cheesy, beany bliss. Heartburn, on the other hand, will not let you forget.
The tube that connects your mouth to your stomach is your oesophagus, and it’s in charge of pushing food down in rhythmic waves. Acids and enzymes break down food once it reaches your stomach, preparing it for digestion. Stomach acids are strong (after all, they’re supposed to dissolve food), and your stomach has an unique lining that shields it from acid. However, in the case of heartburn, some of those stomach acids migrate back up into the oesophagus, causing you to experience a burning sensation.
Heartburn can be induced by a variety of factors, ranging from spicy foods to coffee to genetics, making it difficult to predict what will produce acid reflux. Thankfully, there are a variety of ways to relieve heartburn without resorting to over-the-counter or prescription medications, and you may be able to find comfort with items you already have on hand. Here are a few natural and easy ways to relieve that burning sensation:
Baking Soda
It’s important to note that we mentioned baking soda, not baking powder (you’re not a cake, so don’t mix the two). Baking soda is a cheap and natural alternative to baking powder. In a cup of water, dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda. Baking soda will aid in acid neutralisation. If you’re on a low-sodium diet, ask your doctor before using baking soda.
Aloe juice
Aloe juice can be found in most supermarkets. Aloe vera is used to treat sunburns on the skin, and aloe juice can be used to treat acid reflux. If you suffer from heartburn, it’s a good suggestion to drink 12 cup of aloe juice before each meal to keep your stomach and oesophagus at ease.
Sugar-Free Gum
Increasing the amount of saliva you produce after a meal is a fantastic approach to help prevent acid formation. Reduce heartburn by chewing a stick of gum for 30 minutes.
Apple cider vinegar
Surprisingly, everyone’s favourite treatment can aid in the relief of heartburn. 3 teaspoons apple cider vinegar in a cup of water, then drink before each meal or at bedtime (it won’t taste nice, so be aware).
Eat a Banana
This is a simple one. Bananas include natural antacids, in case you didn’t know. To aid with acid reflux, start eating a banana every day. If you don’t have a banana, you can use an apple.
Stop Smoking
If you’re a smoker looking for even another reason to quit, look no further. If you’ve found that acid reflux has gotten worse and you smoke, your oesophagus will be aggravated, making everything pain. It’s an excellent time to give up.
Lifestyle Changes
If you’re overweight, minor dietary changes and more physical activity may help to improve your heartburn. Foods that cause heartburn, such as fatty or spicy foods, caffeine, chocolate, or carbonated beverages, to name a few, should be avoided. Eliminating these from your diet may be enough to solve the problem.
Heartburn is fairly frequent, but it’s also reasonably straightforward to manage if you keep track of which foods irritate your oesophagus and use these therapies and other lifestyle modifications to combat it.
